Indian Rock Home

This entry opens with a bench on one side to remove your shoes and a ranma, a wood transom, above. Maple was chosen for its light color to keep the entry bright and for its strength to be enjoyed by an active family.

A Tokonoma, a Japanese alcove to display seasonal artwork, welcomes you into the house. American Clay Plaster adds warmth and depth to the walls.

A view of Mount Tamalpais (which can be seen out the second story windows) is lit from behind in this ranma design.

This Berkeley kitchen was designed for a family with two young children who love to cook and bake. The clients wanted a highly functional kitchen with a playful feel. The large 6’x6’ island with an overhanging side for seating, leaves plenty of room for many hands cooking. The peninsula helps define the dining area. The creative backsplash design and differently colored peninsula and island bases make the kitchen a fun and lively space.

A window seat with a view of San Francisco Bay and Mt Tamalpais, separates the Master/Mistress bedroom from their bath.

The clients chose handmade decorative tiles for their bath. Here, above the custom sink base with concrete counter top are two Great White Egrets.

Handmade Dragonfly tiles embellish the shower walls.

The clients requested that the girls' bath tile design be colorful and playful.

As the centerpiece of this living room, the carving in the fireplace surround creates a sense of place by using California native wildflowers, Anna’s hummingbirds and willows.

One of the joys of working with our clients on this project was getting to incorporate our mutual love for California native plants and wildlife.
